Antilooppi’s flexible POOL space concept becomes first carbon-neutral workspace network in Finland
The POOL space solution from Antilooppi for flexible professional needs is now carbon neutral. As Finland’s first carbon-neutral workspace concept, POOL responds to customers’ growing expectations of more sustainable space solutions.
POOL from Antilooppi is a unique and flexible solution: it offers companies and individuals a wide range of coworking and meeting facilities at nine locations in the Helsinki region. POOL was already sustainable: now it is also carbon neutral in energy use, construction and daily operations.
Antilooppi is at the forefront of sustainability and the first to bring a carbon-neutral workspace network to the market. Antilooppi is aiming for carbon neutrality in its entire real estate portfolio by 2030, and with the carbon-neutral POOL solution, the company is taking another significant lead forward in sustainability.
“Tackling climate change and achieving carbon neutrality are key priorities in our sustainability strategy and business. The carbon-neutral POOL solution is yet another important step towards our sustainability goals. Through our actions, we want to support our customers’ sustainability and spur the entire real estate sector towards a greener future. Our long-term work continues with our customers, partners and other stakeholders,” says Hannamari Koivula, Head of Sustainability at Antilooppi.
Top-notch sustainability, uncompromising quality
The carbon-neutral POOL solution welcomes visitors to sustainable spaces which mitigate climate impact down to the smallest detail. The energy consumed in POOL spaces has zero carbon footprint: they use exclusively renewable electricity, partly from Antilooppi’s own solar power stations, and the rest from 100% Finnish wind power. Heating and cooling at all POOL properties are also powered by renewables.
Construction and materials are not yet completely emission-free. POOL spaces are designed to be as functional and durable as possible. In these progressive workspaces, the emphasis is on high-quality and low-carbon interior design choices. The spaces are carbon neutral from energy use to the construction of the interiors and the products and services used on the premises. When it comes to emissions that cannot be reduced, Antilooppi plays its part, offsetting the emissions caused by running POOL spaces in cooperation with the carbon sequestering company Compensate Operations Ltd. Antilooppi aims to reduce the amount of such offset emissions annually, too
The emissions caused by alterations made to POOL spaces have been offset since the start of 2022, and the emissions generated by use of the spaces have been offset since the start of 2023. From here on in, we will report annually on the emissions caused by running pool and the associated offsets.
The POOL concept has other sustainability priorities in addition to carbon neutrality: wellbeing, sustainable design, the circular economy and accessibility. The POOL workspaces have excellent public transport links and their shared bikes, ample bike parks and charging points for e-cars and e-bikes encourage sustainable transport. The circular economy, in turn, is reflected in first-class recycling and prioritisation of recyclable solutions.
Sustainable spaces help customers achieve their sustainability goals
In 2022, Antilooppi launched the POOL concept in Merikortteli in Punavuori, Siltasaari 10 in Hakaniemi, Tallbergintalo in Ruoholahti and Stella Business Park in Leppävaara. The new POOL spaces have considered low carbon emissions from the very beginning, and the carbon footprints of alterations have been calculated and certified. Antilooppi also plans to certify all of its POOL properties with LEED or BREEAM certification by summer 2023. Siltasaari 10 has been awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum environmental certification with the highest score in Finland.
By offering a comprehensively sustainable and carbon-neutral workspace network, Antilooppi responds to customers’ growing expectations of sustainable workspaces that support wellbeing.
“At Antilooppi, we want to lead the way in sustainability and create more sustainable workspaces. With the carbon-neutral POOL solution, we can play our part for the environment on our customers’ behalf by welcoming them into premises that are already sustainable. We are extremely happy and proud of this,” says Johanna Sarekoski, Director, Customer Experience & Concept at Antilooppi.
