Antilooppi’s properties in Vallila and Hakaniemi are now carbon neutral in terms of energy use due to using Recycled Heat

Antilooppi’s properties at Elimäenkatu 5 in Vallila and Siltasaarenkatu 10 in Hakaniemi have moved to using emission-free Recycled Heat, that is produced in Helsinki.

The real estate owner Antilooppi has chosen carbon neutrality as one of the key themes in the company strategy, with the goal of achieving a completely carbon neutral real estate portfolio by 2030. To make this a reality, the company is taking concrete sustainability actions in its assets, including the current implementation of Recycled Heat.

from Helsinki further supports our sustainability goals. Through the use of Recycled Heat, our properties at Siltasaarenkatu 10 and Elimäenkatu 5 will be using exclusively renewable energy and will thereby be carbon neutral in their energy consumption,” says Hannamari Koivula, Head of Sustainability at Antilooppi.

The Recycled Heat is produced at the electricity provider Helen’s Katri Vala heat pump plant in Sörnäinen, Helsinki. This renewable and locally produced form of real estate heating is a natural choice for Antilooppi, which operates in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and whose sustainability efforts are also geared towards circular economy.

Recycled Heat is produced from heat from purified wastewater and factories, data centres and industrial processes, for example, which is processed and distributed to be used in properties through the district heating network.

With regard to its energy consumption, the Siltasaari 10 property also uses carbon neutral district cooling. This energy-efficient cooling method is based on using water produced through renewable sources. As for the Elimäenkatu 5 property, a solar power station will be completed during the summer, so the property will also house its own renewable electricity production facilities.

Energy efficiency and renewable energy investments are part of Antilooppi’s commitment to the wellbeing of people and the environment, and to the development of its properties sustainably in the long term. Antilooppi’s flexible space concept POOL, which has been implemented at both the Siltasaari and Elimäenkatu locations, is a prime example of this is. POOL is an office space solution that follows the ebbs and flows of working life, providing sustainable and flexible spaces both for working and for meeting people around the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. Antilooppi is progressing towards the already sustainable POOL concept being completely carbon neutral service.

“We are developing modern work environments for our customers that support the demands of today’s working life and also nourish the well-being of the environment. Our POOL concept is an excellent example of this.”, says Koivula.

Antilooppi has signed the real estate industry’s global Net Zero Carbon Buildings commitment and is committed to achieving carbon neutrality in terms of construction and own energy use by 2030.
